As it turns out, the monochrome makeup trend is here to stay. This type of makeup involves applying the same color (and often the same product) to multiple areas of the face so that the lips, cheeks, and eyes match. The result, which may seem bland, is actually balanced and practical. To help you adopt the technique in your productions, the women’s advice chatted with two professional makeup artists. See expert tips below.
For makeup artist Sandro Barreto, responsible for the beauty of Samantha Schmütz, Roberta Sá, Adriana Birolli and other celebrities, the important thing is knowing how to dose. “There are super functional products to apply in the mouth, in the eyes and even as a blush. I recommend the creamy ones, which are easy to use,” he says.
The look considered sophisticated by many professionals does not have to be the same. Sadi Consati, make-up artist and consultant at O Boticário, recommends applying small variations of the same color to avoid a ‘high’ effect on the face. “Take out the darkest color shade for the mouth, the medium one for the eyes, and a softer one for the cheeks. Keep the same color, but with different shades, thus providing depth and movement to the makeup”, he indicates.

Monochrome makeup can also range from soft and subtle to bold and bright. It all depends on the color you want to use. For the first effect, opt for more neutral shades like soft pink or peach. For the latter, choose any color of the rainbow, from red to purple. Sandro Barreto and Sadi Consati indicate the same shades for those who want to try the technique: coral, pink, peach, orange, earth tones, and red. “To get the right monochrome makeup, it’s important to know which shades best suit your skin tone, but they tend to work great on all skin types,” says Barreto.
Best of all, the technique works for any time of the year and you don’t need to be an expert to do it. The make-up artist from O Boticário is the one who gives the touch to achieve the right monochrome look: “It is very important to know how to apply the product and observe that, in some parts of the face, it cannot be passed. A suggestion? Add the product little by little and observe the nuances, so you have a better chance of getting it right,” Consati teaches.
Another problem that women do not have to worry about is the combination of makeup with clothing and accessories. You can put it all together and keep the modernity up to date: “Mixing the look is very cute, it is delicate and beautiful. But always following the variations of color tones in makeup, clothing and accessories. And not coinciding is also very cool and cool”, says Consati. Barreto, for his part, gives important advice: “Depending on the event or the wardrobe proposal, I think it’s time to change the makeup and stick to the classic, so as not to be wrong and not make mistakes… (laughs)”.
